TAP is a one-week residency program designed to introduce students of color to
the field of computer information systems. The program is designed to
demonstrate how technology is utilized to assist business organizations in
their decision making process to operate more effectively. Students will
have an opportunity to participate in the preparation and presentation of a
challenging team project. Additionally, the students will have opportunities
to interact with minority professionals from business and government, as
well as visit and observe them in their work environment.
TAP is open to
minority students and majority women who will be in the 11th and 12th the
fall of the summer when they complete those grades. All students must have a
minimum of 3.0 GPA. Twenty-five students will be chosen. Students selected
to participate in TAP will receive full scholarships to the program, which
covers the cost of tuition, room and board, meals, books, supplies and
transportation during TAP. Students selected to participate in the program
will be provided with a round trip travel ticket to attend the program.
Students must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, complete an application, submit
a letter of recommendation, and show involvement is school, community and/or
church activities. ACT/SAT test results are not required to participate in
the program. Students applying to TAP are not required to have taken a
business course in high school. However, a student must have an interest in
majoring in accounting or related business field.
University faculty members from the Sam M. Walton College of Business
will teach each of the classes: accounting, multimedia, ACCESS/Excel and
communications. Students, who attend TAP will attended classes, develop an
executive presentation; visit a local company's accounting division and
shadow the professionals, interact with college students from the Walton
College, visit the HPER Complex for organized activities, and hear
presentations from various professionals on campus (admissions, scholarship
office, Walton College Advisement Team). Students will be supervised by
trained college students. Students are required to live in the residence
hall in order to become familiar with living on a college campus.
